Reunión FIU Octubre 9, 2009

Por: Sonia Castro ( español) Este mes tuvimos como invitados especiales a Rita Rosa, nuestra Directora de Música, (quien ha sido nominada a los Premios Grammy Latinos de éste año por su C.D de música infantil) y que nos sedujo con "una cosita que escribí y a la que quiero poner música"según sus propias palabras. A mi modo de ver, fué una historieta deliciosa como la que nos contaban las abuelas y que nos hacian soñar cuando ibamos a la cama en nuestra infancia. Luego subió al "podium" el Dr. Miguel Martin Farto, hombre de ciencia, pero dedicado en cuerpo y alma a enseñarle a los niños mediante la prevención, que la salud bien se puede mantener si sigues los consejos de "La Chiva Panchita"; un simpático cuadrúpedo que vive en "El Pueblo de los Animales" y del "Guije" del rio, (un ente mitológico) que harán las delicias de los niños en su próxima Antología de Cuentos, que enseñará a "la gente menuda", como prevenir las enfermedades casi jugando.. Una guia didáctica, útil y simple.

The meeting for the month of October, 2009, took a surprising turn when the topic of discussion was children's literature. Let your imagination run. Take a trip to the past and open the door to childhood memories. Take a moment to remember what made you giggle out of control, what made you scared, what made you happy and you will have the perfect formula for a child's book. That is exactly what Dr. Miguel Farto, the Guest Speaker, did as he combined his profession in medicine with his love for children writing about common medical issues that concern children in general. He relied on Cuban Folklore to develop his stories. Among other books, he has published "La Parrandita" and "Las Casas de las Fiestas."
Rita Rosa, our other Special Guest of the evening, gave us an idea of what her next children's song will be about. Rita was just nominated for the Latin Grammys with her children's c.d. "El Patio de tu Casa."
In the month of October, The Cove /Rincon celebrates 14 years since it was founded and meeting at FIU. Some women of The Cove /Rincon: Sonia, Rosa and Marily, among other members, recited beautiful poems full of love, hope, and happiness. Ernesto contributed with his story tittled: "Luz Verde". This meeting was very entertaining. I am looking forward to the next one.

The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation

"Portraits of Life/Retratos de Vida" Exhibicion de arte

Un deleite para los sentidos fue la Exhibición de artes visuales organizada por The Cove/Rincón Internacional y The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) que tuvo lugar el pasado 3 de octubre en Immaculata La Salle High School (ILS) (junto a la Ermita de la Caridad), la cual tuvo por objeto recaudar fondos para la prevención del cancer de mama en el estado de la Florida con la participación de destacados y talentosos artistas de Miami y algunos entusiastas del extranjero.

Por la tarde, el público asistente pudo admirar las más de 200 obras (pintura, fotografia y escultura), derroche de formas, color y texturas, ricas en diversidad de estilo e imaginación, además de conocer a los creadores de las mismas y saborear los deliciosos bocadillos cortesía de ILS o un rico cafecito cortesía de PILON. Los artistas por su parte, compartieron con sus pares logrando una retroalimentación mas allá de la parte creativa, ante la oportunidad de estrechar lazos de amistad.

James Konschnik Director Ejecutivo de The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation y Marily A. Reyes Presidente de The Cove/Rincón International, hicieron entrega de un reconocimiento a cada artista y patrocinador, prosiguiendo con la entrega de cuatro premios consistentes en tarjetas American Express en las siguientes categorias: Michelle Umbierrez, estudiante, por $ 50 USD; Ewa Perz, artista femenina $ 50 USD; Antonio Guerrero, artista masculino $ 50 USD y Antonio Guerrero, gran premio $ 100 USD; para concluir, agradecieron a los presentes su participación en esta primera Exhibicón a beneficio de esta noble causa, que esperamos se repita cada año.

The Cove/Rincón International joined forces with Florida Breast Cancer Foundation and together proudly presented on October 3rd, Portraits of Life, an art exhibit that brought together almost fifty artists, close to 200 pieces of art (painting, sculpture, photography, installation and hats) and twelve nationalities.The Foundation’s CEO, James Konschnick and Marily, Founder of The Cove/Rincón, met at a seminar early this year and there they started the idea of this exhibit that was to materialize in October.
The Exhibit was hosted by Immaculata-La Salle High School, Marily’s Alma Mater, making her proud all over again of having graduated from there many moons ago.
Months of hard work and much logistics went into the planning, where each artist played a vital part. The morning of the exhibit, our Board Member Miriam Weiss and Mexico Delegate Paty Garza, who traveled to Miami for the exhibit, played an important role with the final touches and set up of this big exhibit and to whom we are extremely grateful for their arduous work.
An exhibition of this scope gives the viewer a different perspective of the central experience other people have and how they look at the world and at situations, therefore, experiencing art in a new way.
This exhibit has given us a new national, international and local perspective and an opportunity to better understand and work together.

XIV Gala The Cove/Rincón International

This was a very special night with the honoring of Aleida Leal who received from The Cove Rincon a very well deserved “QUIET HERO AWARD” The award was given in recognition for more than half a century promoting and helping the arts with her energy and class in television and radio where she still continues her work. This year was a first for a very special guest James Konschnik CEO of Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. James came to support and promote a joint Art Exhibition that will be held in October together with The Cove Rincon and the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. As usual Marily and Gabriel did an outstanding job at introducing the artists that performed for us that night. We enjoyed Poetry, Dance and Music. Three poems made it to the finals and in another first the public decided who was to be the winner of this year. It was very tough since we had “Lanzo Mi Palabra al Viento” (Miriam Weiss, Cuban-American), “Inocentes” (Ana Giner Clemente from Spain) interpreted by Osvaldo Strangoli and Campesina (Ana Edith Tequextle Paque) “Campesina” was chosen by the public and Mexico walked away with the honor on poetry. Dances were represented by Ballet Folklorico Imagenes, they performed Tango, Cumbia and dances from Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. Their performance was outstanding, beautiful and a joy to watch. The night could not be complete without music by Rita Rosa and Marcelino Valdes. Marcelino interpreted the songs of his immortal uncle Vicentico Valdes taking the older generation to those wonderful years and introducing those beautiful songs to the new generation that never had the pleasure and honor to enjoy them before. Rita Rosa, as always, performed beyond expectations with her voice to our delight, we also learned that she had been nominated for the Latin Grammy Award on her latest children CD and was made aware together with the public on how happy and proud we are of her accomplishment. And let’s not forget the maestro of the violin Manuel Villanueva delighting us with his music. The evening closed as usual with all the participants singing the organization’s song.

Como ya es costumbre, el auditorio Margaret E. Anliker de la Universidad Internacional de Florida volvió a prestarnos su espacio para celebrar la Gala de The Cove/Rincón International. En esta ocasión (la decimocuarta, por cierto), de nuevo nos esperaban a la entrada aquellos elementos que prácticamente se han convertido en emblemas de nuestra organización: la concurrida mesa de venta de boletos (tanto para el espectáculo como para la rifa) y el tentador aroma que se desprende del amable puestecito de café (cortesía de Pilón/Bustelo). En fin, allí estaban esos atractivos que caracterizan este encuentro anual de los amantes de la poesía y otras manifestaciones artísticas.
Esta vez, sin embargo, nadie sospechaba que, tras bambalinas, le aguardaba un inusitado trío de sorpresas. Minutos antes de comenzar la Gala (y haciendo gala de total despiste), nuestra eficiente Tesorera Miriam Weiss, lápiz en oreja y carpeta en ristre, se presentó buscando el sitio donde habría de efectuarse el evento. Sus “confidenciales” divagaciones se vieron interrumpidas por la súbita aparición de Sandra Rincón (¿casualidad el apellido?), quien también manifestaba a colombianas quejas su frustración por no saber dónde colocar su obra Al norte de ti. Por último, irrumpió en la sala el pregón de un personaje que, al menos para algunos, constituyó un leve toque de nostalgia. Se trataba de Ibón Bombón, Comerciante Ambulante de “africanas, caramelos, chambelonas, chicharritas, chocolates, papitas fritas y pirulíes”. Tras un breve debate entre Tesorera y Vendedora, ya resueltas todas las dudas y autorizaciones pertinentes, Marily Reyes, nuestra insustituible directora y presidenta, dio inicio al programa.
Nuestro Director de Teatro, Osvaldo Stróngoli, declamó dos de los tres poemas finalistas del certamen convocado para esta Gala: Lanzo mi palabra al viento, de Miriam Weiss, cubanoamericana, e Inocentes, de Ana Giner Clemente (española). El tercero, Campesina, fue escuchado en la voz de su autora, Ana Edith Tequextle Paque (mexicana). Los aplausos del público determinaron que fuera este último el poema ganador. Felicitamos cordialmente a cada una de estas musas creadoras que honran nuestra organización con su obra poética.
El preciado galardón Quiet Hero Award correspondió este año a Aleida Leal, destacada presentadora de radio y televisión que, durante décadas, ha venido desempeñando una infatigable labor en la promoción del arte y la cultura de nuestras comunidades. Una vez más, le hacemos llegar a esta increíble mujer nuestra humilde, pero inmensa gratitud.
Seguidamente, la danza, la tradición y el lenguaje de nuestras raíces hispanas se vieron representados, en derroche de gracia, ritmo y colorido, a través de la actuación del grupo de ballet folclórico Imágenes.
Como culminación de esta mágica noche, las siempre esperadas voces de Rita Rosa Ruesga y Marcelino Valdés nos deleitaron con sus inigualables interpretaciones (acompañadas ocasionalmente por el arco retozón de Manuel Villanueva, el Violinista del Recuerdo), haciendo palpitar más de un corazón y moverse algunos pares de pies desde los asientos de los felices espectadores.
Y tal parece que el mismo Cielo quiso premiar nuestros esfuerzos, pues tuvimos la dicha de ver entre nosotros, en franco proceso de recuperación, a nuestra querida Vicepresidenta Vilma Muises del brazo de su fiel galán Gabriel Zubiat.
